NORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY INCLUSIVE SERVICES AND REPRESENTATION EXPANSION CODIFIED
Effective September 13, 2021, the members of our Board of Directors voted to codify the significant service population and partner representation expansion we’ve intentionally pursued over the course of the last three-plus years. KINDER READINESS WORKSHOPS
The City of Oceanside Public Library will be hosting a series of Kinder Readiness Workshops from September 24 through October 10, 2019. Children ages three to five and their caregivers are invited to attend six workshops to help children and families prepare for kindergarten.
Each workshop will feature group activities, hands-on learning stations and information for parents and caregivers.
Workshops will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., on September 24th and 26th and on October 1st, 3rd, 8th and 10th, at the Civic Center Library in the Children’s Area.
Advance registration is required. Please sign up at the Children’s Desk, beginning on August 23, 2019.

OCEANSIDE PROMISE ANNOUNCES TWO NEW APPOINTMENTS TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Oceanside Promise announced today that Dr. Duane Coleman, retired Superintendent of Oceanside Unified School District and Dr. Rafe Edward Trickey, Jr., City Treasurer for the City of Oceanside, were unanimously approved as the newest members of the Oceanside Promise’s Board of Directors. Dr. Coleman’s and Dr. Trickey’s initial in-person meetings will include a multi-day retreat in late August. The retreat will include traditional board business, the review and adoption of a multi-year strategic plan, and the creation of a multifaceted fund-raising plan to support the growth and sustainability of the Oceanside Promise.
“The Oceanside Promise Board of Directors is thrilled to welcome Dr. Duane Coleman and Dr. Rafe Trickey as our newest members,” commented Vu Nguyen, Board of Directors Chairperson. “Each brings to the Oceanside Promise an impressive resume of professional experience and an unwavering commitment to the social, economic, and educational success of Oceanside’s children, youth, and families.”
Dr. Duane Coleman initiated and supported the Oceanside Promise while superintendent of Oceanside’s PreK-12 public school system from July 2014 through May 2018. A long-time educator, he recognized that the needs of the district’s students were more complex than educators could address alone. Dr. Coleman has more than 30 years in education serving as a teacher, coach, principal, district administrator and superintendent. In addition, he grew up in Oceanside’s Eastside neighborhood and graduated from Oceanside High School. Dr. Coleman retired from the Oceanside Unified School District at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.
Dr. Rafe Edward Trickey, Jr. brings more than a quarter century of leadership experience in higher education, philanthropy, nonprofit and public service to the Oceanside Promise. His extensive career in higher education has fueled his commitment to student success and interest in equitable access to postsecondary education. As a former college president, vice president, educator and consultant, his impressive skillset includes strategic planning, organizational development, human resources management, financial planning and management, fund raising, and program evaluation. Dr. Trickey currently serves as the City of Oceanside’s City Treasurer and has been a resident of Oceanside for nearly 15 years.

OCEANSIDE PROMISE RECEIVES $200,000 STUART FOUNDATION GRANT AND CARNEGIE CORPORATION OF NEW YORK-FUNDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
Grants to impact student success from cradle to college and career
The Oceanside Promise announced today that it has been awarded direct and indirect grant funding from the Stuart Foundation and Carnegie Corporation of New York. The Stuart Foundation’s Board of Directors recently approved a $200,000, 18-month grant to support organizational capacity for the Oceanside Promise community-wide partnership whereas the Corporation’s philanthropic support will provide technical assistance for advancing transformational, equitable, and sustainable social change throughout Oceanside. Together, the grants will enable the Oceanside Promise to better align and leverage the programs, services, and resources of its more than 40 cross-sector partners to ensure Oceanside’s children and students achieve their fullest potential in college, career, and life.
“We appreciate the Stuart Foundation’s and Carnegie Corporation of New York’s support of our collective efforts to improve opportunities and outcomes for Oceanside’s children from cradle to college and through career,” commented Nicole Magnuson, executive director of the Oceanside Promise. “The entire community benefits when our children succeed, and the Oceanside Promise partners are working together to help ensure every child has equitable access to economic and life opportunities regardless of race, income or ability.”

THE OCEANSIDE PROMISE PARTNERS UNITE TO PROMOTE THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY LITERACY AT LIBBY LAKE AND BALDERRAMA PARKS
The Oceanside Promise partners are joining together to promote the importance of early literacy and to encourage enrollment in high quality early childhood environments during two upcoming Oceanside neighborhood events. Families with young children and students surrounding Libby Lake Park (June 19) and Balderrama Park (June 25) are invited to the events, which are free to the public and will offer FREE food, fun, and literacy-based activities.
