College and Career Readiness

Aligning community programs, services, and resources to better prepare Oceanside’s students for college, career and life with an emphasis on Latino young men.

Our Goals:

  • Every student graduates from high school college- and career-ready

  • Every graduate enters a post-secondary program and pursues a college degree or industry-recognized credential or certificate

The Oceanside Promise’s College and Career Readiness Action Network is comprised of individuals and organizations committed to helping all children and young adults reach their fullest potential in college, career and life. The Action Network is co-chaired by Dr. Alketa Wojcik (MiraCosta College) and Dr. Jordy Sparks (Oceanside Unified School District). The Oceanside Promise’s Latino Young Men Success Pilot is the Action Network’s current focus and is aligned with the following overarching priorities:

  1. Promote a community-wide post-secondary-going culture for all students

  2. Provide rigorous, relevant and real-world learning experiences

  3. Facilitate post-secondary planning and entry supports

  4. Align and pursue funding sources to support collaboration

Provide Meaningful Career Exposure and Experiences to Students

Businesses and organizations throughout Oceanside are needed to provide a variety of career exposure experiences for the Latino Young Men Success Pilot and other students. If you’re interested in providing a meaningful internship during the summer months (approximately 15 hrs per week for six weeks), an experienceship (job shadowing or other career-based experience), or sponsoring an intern ($2,500 per intern), contact us today!

Help Mentor Latino Young Men in Oceanside

The Oceanside Promise is actively seeking mentors and role models for the Latino Young Men Success Pilot. Our first priority is to recruit Latino males of all ages and from a variety of professions who are willing to share their personal life experiences and professional journeys as inspiration for the young men in the Pilot.
